The following proposal aims to connect the people and the city of Birmingham together through the use of sound and to raise the user’s awareness of their surrounding areas, reflecting on the relationships with man-made and natural sounds which may originally be instinctively blocked out or seen as unpleasant sound. This concept is to create a new way of experiencing a city as a whole, providing a platform for the people of Birmingham to experience and appreciate the wide variety of acoustic textures and rhythm the city has to offer, allowing the users to uncover their emotional response to spaces throughout Birmingham through the power of sound.

My name is Richard MacDonald, I’ve just finished studying my MArch in Architecture as a part-time student whilst working for Glazzard Architects, based in Worcester.
I am currently working on a number of residential and commercial projects and the experience and knowledge gained, has helped me to further develop my study at BCU. I have strong interests in art, photography and literature, which I look to incorporate into my designs and architectural concepts.
