Rethinking Role of Parks in Urban Food & Eco system

2020

Birmingham has a wide range of green pockets and parks. My strategy plan includes identifying the green spaces, establishing continuity and integrating them with food growing areas at the wider city level. I have further detailed an exemplar Park with food spaces and diverse landscape that promotes biodiversity, well-being as well as providing recreation. Applying sustainability as the main principle I have reused the existing buildings as a kitchen garden and visitor centre to become part of the landscape.

My name is Sushma Nadahalli. I am currently completing my MA in Landscape Architecture. My interest lies in understanding the relationship of people with nature and using a sustainable approach towards design to promote their well-being in an urban setting.
I hold a Bachelor of Architecture from Visvesvaraya Technological University, Karnataka, India. I have worked as an architect in India.
Since 2018 I have been working as a Landscape Assistant at Fira.
